The organization delivered a public records request… The North Carolina NAACP is questioning the hiring of Margaret Spellings as the UNC system president. The organization delivered a public records request on Tuesday to the UNC General Administration.

Officials with the NAACP are unhappy with the decision to hire Spellings, who is set to replace Tom Ross on March 1.

They say she isn't right for the job, and would like some insight as to what went into the decision-making process.

Spellings is a former U.S. Education Secretary under President George W. Bush.

Opponents say the hiring process was too political.

There have been demonstrations and arrests at recent UNC Board of Governor's meetings.

University officials told WNCN that their search process adhered to Board of Governors policy and state law.
