For Russia, Hosting World Cup Is A Bid To Win Global Respect

The month-long soccer tournament promises its share of thrilling upsets and political intrigue. Russia hopes that by hosting this global sporting event this year, it will boost the country's prestige.

The Aquarius rescue ship enters the port of Valencia on Sunday. The 630 migrants whose rescue sparked a major migration row in Europe began disembarking in Spain after a turbulent week that saw Italy turn away the Aquarius ship.

The former president of Italy's soccer federation is accused of groping a colleague. The New York Times and The Guardian say prosecutors believe the woman, in her 50s, was too old to be intimidated.
