Cyclists converged in Winston-Salem during this weekend's Cycling Classic.  This comes on the heels of some good news for local fans: Professional cyclists will be competing for more championships here for the next two years.

It will take nine days to fit in the six various competitive races planned for late May in 2016 and 2017. Organizers say it's the first time that this number of national cycling championships will be held at one time and in one place.

The events, which will include the just announced USA Cycling Pro Road and Time Trial National Championships, are expected to bring thousands of racers and fans to Winston-Salem. Next year's competition will begin May 22 and conclude on Memorial Day.

USA Cycling is working with Visit Winston-Salem and the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic to put on the events.
