Branford, Wynton, Delfeayo, and Jason share the distinction of being among the top jazz musicians on their respective instruments. They also share a last name: Marsalis. This Friday, their father, legendary pianist Ellis Marsalis and drummer Jason Marsalis will perform as part of the UNC at Greensboro Performing Arts Series. On the program music by Cole Porter, Thelonious Monk, Vince Guaraldi's Linus and Lucy, and originals by Ellis and his son, like the tune we sample in today's show: Jason's “Closing Credits”.

UNCG's Miles Davis Program in Jazz Studies Director bassist Steve Haines, and his colleagues look forward to performing alongside the Marsalis duo.

An Evening with Ellis and Jason Marsalis is Friday, September 12th at 8:00 pm in Aycock Auditorium on the UNCG campus. On the program will be a combination of standards, Monk, Marsalis originals, and the Charlie Brown theme song by Vince Guaraldi.
