High School football playoffs have not yet begun in North Carolina. But two Guilford County teams are already seeing their seasons' futures heading in different directions.

The Dudley High School Panthers have been a powerhouse on the field this year. But in its last game on Nov. 7, four non-varsity players were on the sidelines, and one of them played in the game. The problem is they had already played in a game that week. And that's against the rules. An executive committee of the state High School Athletic Association voided the victory.

What that means if it stands is that the playoffs are over for Dudley. The forfeiture affects Dudley's playoff standing. And under the rules, if that happens to a team after the brackets are set, they are disqualified.

Dudley officials announced Wednesday it will appeal the committee's decision to the full board.

Dudley, which had been the number one seed, was scheduled to play Jamestown's Ragsdale High School on Friday. Unless the second appeal is successful, Ragsdale – a 16 seed - will automatically advance to the second round.
