Police say a two-year-old has died of a gunshot wound sustained in a Winston-Salem home.
A news release says police responded to reports of a shooting on Friday at 7:39 p.m. at 126 Martindale Road.
The victim was in transit to the hospital at the time and officers encountered the car carrying the child on Highway 311. Emergency responders then transferred the victim to a local hospital, where the child later died.
Detectives with the Winston-Salem Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division are conducting the investigation. Officials say early reports indicate a gun was "discharged within the home, and the minor child was shot." No suspects are being sought at this time.
