A tale of rape, murder, and the pursuit of justice is told in Twin City Stage's newest production of John Grisham's A Time To Kill.

A young black girl in Mississippi is brutally raped by two white racists. The men are quickly arrested and awaiting trial when the girl's father takes matters into his own hands, killing her attackers. So begins John Grisham's first novel A Time to Kill. It's since become a critical and commercial box office success, and a powerful play. Twin City Stage is only the second theatre company in the country to produce A Time to Kill since its run on Broadway. Actor Brian Joyce plays the fame-seeking lawyer Jake Brigance who defends Carl Lee, the girl's vigilante father. He's joined by director Mark Pirolo, and Twin City Stage actor Derrick Parker who plays Carl.

A Time to Kill opens Friday, November 7th at the Arts Council Theatre in Winston-Salem where it'll run through the 16th with evening performances at 8 and Sunday matinee at 2. Following the matinee performance on November 9th, TCS will sponsor “Balancing the Scales: A Community Forum on How Justice Works in Roday's America”. The panel discussion will feature Attorney David Freeman, Pastor Randy Harris, Winston-Salem State University Associate Professor Dr. Alvin Mitchell and Twin City Stage actors Brian Joyce and Derrick Parker. The panelists will be discussing whether a world where the "eye for an eye" private justice of killing criminals (as depicted in the play) is better than a world where only the state may punish the criminals through the criminal justice system. The conversation will last for approximately 30-45 minutes.
