The city of Greensboro has a new leader. Last week, council members chose Deputy City Manager Jim Westmoreland to replace City Manager Denise Turner Roth, who has been tapped for a federal post.

Jim Westmoreland, 48, grew up in Winston-Salem and is a professional engineer who has worked for both the state and city transportation divisions.

Since 1996, Westmoreland has worked in various posts with the city of Greensboro.  WFDD's Keri Brown recently spoke with him about his new role.

Westmoreland says he is looking forward to building off his experience and long established relationships in the community to serve the city at a different level. He will officially start in the new position as city manager on February 1.
