Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center joined other Triad hospitals yesterday when they placed restrictions on visitors due to the increase in flu cases. Baptist joins Cone Health and High Point Regional, among others, who have adopted these temporary measures to protect their patients from influenza.

Effective immediately, only healthy adult visitors and family members age 18 and older are permitted to visit patients. Children under age 18 may not visit patients. Exceptions for special family circumstances, such as a dying family member, may be allowed, but parents and guardians are asked to get permission from the patient's nurse to allow children to visit.

Officials at Wake Forest Baptist plan to continue these restrictions through the end of the flu season.
