The Department of Health and Human Services reports 15 more flu deaths last week. State health officials say the death toll from the flu in North Carolina so far has surpassed the total for all of 2013-14.

The department reports 114 people have died from the flu this season, which dates back to Oct. 4, 2014. Last season, 107 people died from flu-related illness. The agency reports 59 people died of the flu in the 2012-2013 season.

Of the 114 deaths this season, 91 have involved people age 65 and older.

The latest report is less than half the 34 deaths reported the week before.

Last week, state health officials announced that flu activity had peaked at the end of December but that more flu-related deaths were expected.
