Thom Tillis is putting together his staff for when he heads to Washington. As WFDD's Michael Burke reports, the new staff includes both long time associates and Capital Hill veterans.

The outgoing state House speaker on Tuesday announced key positions before next month's swearing-in. Chief of staff is John Mashburn, a North Carolina native with nearly 25 years of experience on Capitol Hill. He most recently led two conservative-leaning policy groups. Administrative Director Debra Jarrett is also a veteran congressional staffer.

Campaign manager Jordan Shaw will be the Charlotte-based state director. He previously was Tillis' communications director while Tillis was speaker. Campaign Communications Director Daniel Keylin and Press Secretary Meghan Burris will hold identical positions in the Senate office.

Chris Hayes, chief of staff for the speaker, will be deputy chief of staff. General Counsel Ray Starling will keep similar responsibilities in Washington.
