The Yadkin Riverkeeper's Tour de Yadkin is in full swing and there's still time to sign up for a trip on the water.

Judi Rossabi is the community outreach and program administrator for the Riverkeeper program. She says that while the tours are fun for both novice and expert paddlers, they come with a serious message. According to Rossabi, the river is threatened with pollution from nearby factory farms. Another threat is from a large coal ash pond at the Buck Steam Station in Rowan County.

The Yadkin River provides drinking water to more than 700,000 people.

There are still after-work tours, longer tours with camping options, and a tour to Boone's Cave Park in Davidson County. The tours run through June 28.

A full schedule of Tour de Yadkin events is available at the Yadkin Riverkeeper site.
