The brand may be called Texas Pete, but the company that makes it has been a Winston-Salem mainstay for decades.

And it's keeping those local roots as it prepares to move its headquarters downtown.

T.W. Garner Food Company is moving into the historic Boling-Nash building on Fourth Street, which is already home to another well-known local brand, Foothills Brewery. Garner is best known for making Texas Pete – the country's number three hot sauce brand. It also makes other well-known sauces and snacks.

Gayle Anderson is president and CEO of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce. She says having another corporate headquarters downtown is good for the city.

“When we talk about our community to other places, Texas Pete is certainly a brand that people recognize in many, many, many places so that always helps, it gives you a little more credibility," she says.

It's not the company's first foray into downtown. Last year it hosted the Texas Pete Culinary Arts Festival, which took the weekend slot of the city's former Rock the Block street festival.

Garner will keep its production facilities at its current location on Indiana Avenue.
