Deborah Ross has joined the race for the U.S. Senate.  The former state legislator will run for Richard Burr's seat in 2016.

The Democrat released a short video overnight describing herself and why she is trying to unseat the Republican incumbent next year.

Ross says too many North Carolina residents feel it has become harder to meet America's promise of unlimited opportunity. She says everyone is entitled to an elected government that solves problems for the good. Ross is a Raleigh attorney who served in the State House for ten years.

She previously worked as a lobbyist for the American Civil Liberties Union and for the Triangle-area transit authority.

Spring Lake Mayor Chris Rey is already in the race for the Democratic nomination. The primary was recently moved from May to March 15.
