Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was involved in a car accident Tuesday not from the team's stadium in Charlotte. The NFL star is in fair condition with two fractures to his lower back.

Police say the two-vehicle crash happened on the Church Street Bridge over Interstate 277. That's about one block from Bank of America Stadium.

They say the truck Newton was driving was overturned on the roadway with debris scattered all over the street. The roof of the truck was caved in and another car that appeared to be involved in the crash had front end damage.

Photos from the Charlotte Observer show Newton, 25, smiling as the Atlanta native and former Auburn star was being attended to by an officer on the ground.

The Panthers tweeted that Cam Newton is in fair condition at Carolinas Medical Center. The accident remains under investigation.
