Local Republican Congressional candidates out-raised the Democrats in the third quarter of this year.

For Mark Walker, GOP candidate for the 6th Congressional District, this is the first quarter he's raised more money than his Democratic opponent, Laura Fjeld. Although both continue to trail in overall fundraising, the turnaround for the local Republican Congressional candidates sparked optimism. According to the Winston-Salem Journal, Walker's staff noted that they were ahead of Fjeld's fundraising even with a $50,000 loan Fjeld made to herself. Her campaign said that they spent less money this past quarter, leaving most of what they raised for the final month.

Republican Vince Coakley also outraised Democrat Alma Adams in their race for the 12th Congressional District.
