More ads are filling North Carolina's airwaves in the Hagan-Tillis race. This U.S. Senate contest is considered one of the most expensive in the country and is drawing nationwide attention.

 

Sen. Kay Hagan and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee announced Thursday they're spending nearly $1 million on radio ads on stations tailored to black listeners. The commercials blame Republican challenger Thom Tillis and other GOP lawmakers for education cuts, tax breaks for the wealthy and new voting restrictions.

The incumbent Hagan had a large campaign fundraising advantage over Tillis entering the summer. Hagan should get a money boost later this month when former President Bill Clinton pitches for her in Chapel Hill.

The Freedom Partners Action Fund said this week it's running two television ads through the end of the month . The ads criticize Hagan for her support or President Obama's signature health care law and for continued problems with health care for veterans. The fund, linked to financiers Charles and David Koch, says it's spending "six figures" on the ads. Tillis also benefited this week from private fundraising and public events with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
