Lake Street Dive makes its third appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Clay Center in Charleston, W.Va. The deal with Lake Street Dive is pretty simple: The band's four members can all flat-out play, sing and write. Hailing from Tennessee, Iowa, Minnesota and Pennsylvania, they met while studying at Boston's prestigious New England Conservatory of Music. Named after a neighborhood of bars in trumpeter and guitarist Mike "McDuck" Olson's hometown, Lake Street Dive is jazz-schooled and DIY-motivated, taking its penchant for Beatles-inspired pop and stretching the boundaries to a sophisticated style of acoustic, groove-driven soul.

Following up 2014's Bad Self Portraits, which catapulted the band from an unclassifiable alt-country jazz group to a pop-soul powerhouse, Lake Street Dive released Side Pony earlier this year. Rachael Price sings lead and Bridget Kearney plays upright bass, along with Olson on trumpet and guitar and Mike Calabrese on drums.
