Label company to close Winston-Salem plant

A Tennessee-based company is closing its label and packaging materials facility in Winston-Salem.

Officials with Resource Label Group announced last week that it will permanently shutter its Old Lexington Road plant in June. The move will affect as many as 74 employees.

The company informed state officials of the closure through the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. Company management cited changing business needs as the reason for the move.

Thirty-four employees will be offered positions at the company’s facility in Garner, and others will be allowed to apply for positions there as jobs become available.

Resource Label Group acquired the Pharmaceutic Litho and Label Company facility in Winston-Salem and another one in California last year. The business makes labels and packaging components for manufacturers in the medical science industry.

For the six-month period through January, North Carolina’s unemployment rate has stayed steady at about the three and a half percent mark, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
