It's Official: Manning Accepts WFU Men's Basketball Coaching Job
Former NBA player and Greensboro native Danny Manning is the new head coach at Wake Forest University.
On Friday, Wake Forest Athletics confirmed that Manning accepted their offer. Steve Shutt, Associate Athletic Director, says the university will hold a press conference with Manning sometime next week to formally introduce him as head coach.
As head coach for the University of Tulsa in the last two seasons, Manning compiled a 38-29 record and captured the Conference USA Championship in March, leading the school to their first bid in the NCAA Tournament in over a decade.
Manning, 47, was a star at Page High in Greensboro in the early 1980's before starring for the University of Kansas, winning the national title in 1988. He was selected as the first overall pick the same year in the NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers and was a two-time All-Star in his 15 year pro career.
Manning replaces Jeff Bzdelik, who resigned on March 20 after four years as head coach of the Demon Deacons.
