North Carolina House members are pressing the Senate to approve a bill that partially restores the historic preservation tax credit, which expired at the first of the year as part of a tax overhaul.
They, along with Cultural Resources Secretary Susan Kluttz, said at a news conference Tuesday the new proposed tax credits are in keeping with that overhaul because they provide jobs and foster economic development.
They spoke one day after the Senate referred the bill to a committee that rarely meets.
Last week, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill, which includes a tax credit lower than the one that expired. It also has caps and other limits.
GOP House Speaker Tim Moore calls the historic preservation tax credit "one of the really great things the state has done."
