The High Point City Council has hired a Monroe administrator to be its next city manager.

Gregory Demko replaces Strib Boynton, who retired earlier this year.

Demko has more than 35 years in local government experience. He is currently an assistant city manager and director of finance for Monroe, a Union County city of about 37,000 people.

Prior to Monroe, Demko worked as an administrator in two Colorado towns.

Demko is a certified public accountant and also has an MBA.

Demko's selection is the result of a three-month national search.
