The Greensboro Regional Realtors Association said yesterday that sales of existing, single-family homes in Guilford County increased 28.6% during August, compared with the same time last year.

Monthly figures prepared by Dr. Donald Jud of Jud & Associates for the Association show a total of 450 units sold in Guilford County in August 2013, while 350 were sold in August 2012. It also represents an increase of 1.1% over July of 2013.

The seasonally adjusted average home price in August 2013 was $168,774, a 9.1% increase over August of last year.  Existing home prices during this cycle bottomed out in March 2012, and since that time have gone up 11.6%.

In a statement released Tuesday, 2013 Association President Nancy Radtke said, "Rising mortgage interest rates pushed more buyers to close deals in August."
