Guilford Technical Community will take part in a project aimed at improving education statewide. The school is one of eight community colleges in the state that will be part of the North Carolina Roadmap To Excellence initiative.

The project was organized by the Aspen Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based educational and policy studies group.

The News and Record reports the goal is to improve performance in a number of areas, including completion rates for certificate and degree programs, employment and earnings of community college graduates, and access for low-income and minority students.

A spokesperson for the Aspen Institute says the group chose North Carolina colleges that have been trying new ways to help students succeed.

The Institute is perhaps best-known for awarding a $1 million prize every other year to what it considers the best two-year college in the nation.
