Greensboro City Manager Taiwo Jaiyeoba called Police Chief John Thompson following a domestic disturbance at his home over the holidays.

A police report from the Dec. 28, 2023 incident said three family members including Jaiyeoba were victims of assault. Body camera footage has not been released publicly.

In a statement sent out on Friday, Greensboro police said "at no time" did the city manager ask them to not follow normal procedures.

According to the press release, Jaiyoeba contacted Thompson. The chief then spoke with the first responding officer on the scene, telling them to de-escalate the situation, document all interviews, and that the watch commander was on the way.

In its statement, the police department said the incident report was filed on Dec. 29, but online access was restricted due to "sensitive information within it."

Greensboro's City Council recently said after reviewing body camera footage, it concluded the incident was "thoroughly investigated" and that the city manager "did not receive preferential treatment."

Council said police and the District Attorney's office have decided criminal charges aren't warranted.
