The Greensboro City Council has agreed to pay an aerospace company $1,000 for each local job it creates, should it build a new facility in Guilford County.

At a meeting Monday, the council unanimously approved the incentives for Marshall USA LLC, a UK-based company that specializes in maintaining C-130 military aircraft. They’re proposing to build a new maintenance facility at Piedmont Triad International Airport.

“The expansion would result in a capital investment of over $50 million and up to 240 new jobs over a five-year period," said Marshall Yandle with the city of Greensboro. "The average wage of those jobs is $73,250. And none of those jobs would pay under $15 an hour.”

Under the agreement, the company would be required to host job fairs to fill the positions. The $240,000 grant would expire if the company fails to create new jobs by the end of 2027.

The Guilford County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to vote on its own incentive package of just under $433,000 for the company on Thursday.
