Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan announces she will not seek reelection

Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan announced at a city council meeting Tuesday that she will not seek reelection.

Vaughan has served in her position since 2013. She says she decided to not seek another term after a great deal of thought and prayer.

"I do have plans for life after being mayor," she says. "They do not include elective office and that is all I plan to say at this point."

Vaughan highlighted the construction of the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts downtown and the incoming Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Center in southeast Greensboro as major accomplishments during her tenure.

She says in the last few years city leaders have also been intentional in improving relationships with the county, their High Point counterparts, and the state legislature.

"When I look back at the last 11 years, I'm proud of all the things that we have accomplished," Vaughan says. "My goal was to move this city forward and we have."

Her term ends in 2025.
