Controversial changes that would reduce the size of the Greensboro Council moved forward Wednesday. But the way it happened was a surprise.

Sen. Trudy Wade had introduced the bill earlier this year which had recently stalled. Now the measure is tucked into a different bill altogether, one that would make similar changes to the Randolph County town of Trinity.

State Senator Gladys Robinson says the move doesn't represent the best interests of Greensboro.

"I think it's just an affront to this community for this to continue to move forward," he says.

When asked why she had made it part of the Trinity bill, Wade said she'd made some changes to her original measure.

"I think this improves the bill, and I wanted to be able to make those corrections and improve it, make it a better bill," she says.

The bill now goes on to the full Senate. If approved there it would still need to be approved by the state House, where it is likely to be met with some opposition from the Guilford delegation.
