Four Greensboro firefighters are recovering from injuries they suffered in a Thursday afternoon blaze.
It began shortly before 1 p.m. at Import Knight Body Repair, an auto repair shop at 811 South Elm Street. The Greensboro News and Record reports firefighters used a ladder truck to fight the flames from the air as well as from the ground and smoke could be seen for several blocks.

Four fire fighters were injured when the building collapsed. Captain Thomas “Sterling” Suddarth is being treated at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for burns and other injuries. Senior firefighter Mathew Clapp is being treated for injuries to his foot, ankle and leg at Moses Cone Hospital. Captain William Shane Boswell and senior firefighter Brian Bachemin have been treated and released from Cone Hospital.

Also, at the time of the fire, six workers were inside. All made it out safely. Crews continued putting out hot spots into early Thursday evening. The Occupational Health and Safety Division of OSHA is investigating what caused the blaze.  Greensboro police are asking motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area of Elm and Lee Streets.
