Authorities are investigating a death at a Forsyth County gun range owned by U.S. Rep. Ted Budd.

Forsyth County investigators responded to an early afternoon call of a fatal shooting at ProShots, a shooting range and gun shop.

The sheriff's department says the incident appears to be a suicide.

Budd is a conservative congressman and businessman representing North Carolina's 13th District who's been endorsed by the National Rifle Association.

As of Monday afternoon, The Winston-Salem Journal reports detectives are still investigating the incident.

According to a Harvard University researcher, suicides at shooting ranges are rare, typically only a fraction of a percent of the total gun deaths in a given year.
