Five misdemeanor warrants were served on the former director of the Guilford County Animal Shelter. The citations were issued to Marsha Williams for cruelty to animals.

Williams formerly served as the director of the United Animal Coalition, which was the group that ran the Guilford and Davidson County Animal Shelters.

Williams is one of three United Animal Coalition employees already facing charges in Davidson County.

According to Fox-8 News, Guilford County Sheriff B.J. Barnes says his office is trying to make a point that no one can get away with animal cruelty and neglect.

North Carolina First Lady Ann McCrory joined Sheriff Barnes for the press conference Thursday. She said the “atrocities and torture” are beyond anything she's ever heard of before.

Williams court date for the misdemeanor citations is planned for Dec. 14.
