Some families in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School system are upset over a computer error that forced school officials to redo a lottery for three of its magnet schools.

Several families who filled out applications for their children to attend the Downtown School, Moore Magnet Elementary, and the ninth grade at Reynolds High School were notified by email and by phone Wednesday night about a computer error.

School officials say they used the wrong computer file earlier that day for the lottery drawing. Instead of using this year's applications, they used applications from the previous year.

To correct the mistake, school officials held another lottery for the three magnet schools Thursday afternoon.  The drawing was held at the Education on Bethania Station Road.

However, Winston/Salem Forsyth County School officials say the incident will not affect a student's odds of getting into the magnet school of their choice.
