Winston-Salem State University will soon have a chance to be in the spotlight on one of sport's major stages when ESPN's “First Take” talk show comes to town.

The Feb. 3 show at the HBCU is part of the network's celebration of Black History Month.

The university says in a release that the plan is to broadcast a portion live from the Clarence E. Gaines Center on campus.

One of the panelists on the show is Stephen A. Smith. He's a 1991 graduate of the university who also played basketball for the Rams. He's gone on to a long career in sports broadcasting, becoming one of ESPN's best-known stars.

The university says Smith won't be on campus for the show — he'll remain in the studio but will take part virtually.

“First Take” is a daily roundtable discussion of the day's major sports news with Smith and two other panelists. It airs on ESPN's TV and radio networks and is available as a podcast.
