Duke Energy customers may have had personal information exposed in a potential data breach that could affect over 370,000 customers, predominantly in the western Carolinas.

The company Duke Energy uses to process payments, TIO Networks, reported “security vulnerabilities” last month.

A Duke Energy statement released this week says the breach specifically targets those who paid their bill with cash or check at one of the company's walk-in payment processing centers between 2008 and 2017.

Information that may have been compromised includes things like names, addresses, account numbers, and some banking information.

Duke Energy says TIO Networks will begin sending letters to affected customers. Other companies that use TIO to process payments could also be impacted.
