A recount confirms that incumbent Cheri Beasley has defeated a Winston-Salem attorney in a race for the North Carolina Supreme Court.

The race between Beasley and local attorney Mike Robinson was the only statewide race to end in a recount.

In the final tally, fewer than 6,000 votes separated the two candidates out of almost 2 and a half million votes cast.

Robinson had until Tuesday evening to decide whether to seek another recount. Robinson tells WFDD that he will instead concede the race.

Although the race is officially non-partisan, Robinson ran as a conservative. Despite the loss, Robinson describes the campaign as a “wonderful opportunity” and says he enjoyed the process.

Beasley retains the seat the she was appointed to three years ago by then-Gov. Bev Perdue.
