Today we take a look at Authoring Action, a Winston-Salem based non-profit harnessing the power of storytelling and engaging young people ages 12 to 18.

Through the practice of creative writing and spoken word techniques as well as music, dance and film, the group empowers young individuals as they discover and share their unique voices. Seventeen-year-old Hunter Mcintosh and eighteen-year-old Tony Jenkins are two seasoned Authoring Action members. The Reynolds High School students spoke with Bethany Chafin about their year-round involvement with the group, the subjects of their writing, and the relationships they build through sharing their work. Tony began by describing how the group meets with one another, and later, Hunter performs part of his original work, "Freefall." Authoring Action is run by Executive Director Lynn Rhoades and Artistic Director Nathan Ross Freeman.  You can learn more about the group and Tony and Hunter from the documentary Ink From My Soul
