Gov. Pat McCrory and other state officials visited a Greensboro transportation company Thursday to help promote a new workforce development program. The "1,000 in 100" initiative is a fact-finding tour designed to learn what job skills are in demand by employers.

Governor McCrory, Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker and North Carolina Community College System President Scott Ralls visited Epes Transportation in Greensboro. They spoke with Epes executives about the company's partnerships with Guilford Technical Community College.

According to the Greensboro News and Record, this is just part of the kick-off for the project that involves local workforce development teams visiting 1,000 businesses in North Carolina during the next 100 days. The trio also visited businesses in Cary and Charlotte.

McCrory says this plan streamlines education on all levels with the skills needed to land a job. The initiative additionally addresses the need to attract more venture capital for start-up companies.
