WINSTON-SALEM SYMPHONY - RACHMANINOFF’S PIANO CONCERTO NO. 1

Community Event
Sunday, November 17, 2019 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm Tuesday, November 19, 2019 - 7:30pm to 9:30pm

A wicked sorcerer has transformed princess Odette into a swan in Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballet Swan Lake; the composer’s sweet melodies and vibrant orchestral colors have made this suite an enduring favorite. Listen for more musical stories in Mendelssohn’s Overture, which conjures Shakespeare’s fairies and lovers. Rachmaninoff’s First Piano Concerto puts his youth and vigor on display—Rachmaninoff was merely 17 when he began to compose it. This concert features Kenny Broberg, piano, a 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Silver Medalist. The Winston-Salem Symphony, one of the Southeast’s most highly regarded regional orchestras, begins its 73rd season in October 2019.
