UNCSA Presents - “The Color Purple”

Community Event
Wednesday, May 13, 2020 - 7:30pm to 9:30pm

The season’s second Tony Award-winning Broadway musical is “The Color Purple.” Based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and the Academy Award-nominated film of the same name, “The Color Purple” is a portrait of African American women coming into their own in rural Georgia during the first half of the 20th century. With musical numbers ranging from gospel to honky-tonk to R&B, the show was hailed by The Hollywood Reporter as “a direct hit to the heart” and by The New York Times as “a ravishingly reconceived production that is a joy to behold.” UNCSA Presents brings world-class, professional live entertainment back to downtown Winston-Salem for the first time in almost a decade. This season includes Broadway hits, programming for families, and popular music events.
