UNC School of the Arts: Wind Ensemble and Chamber Winds: Perpetual Motion!

Emerging Artist Series // UNCSA artists come together with the Wind Ensemble to create an eclectic and energetic program of adventure, tributes and comedy. The Wind Ensemble will be joined by the Cantata Singers on Eric Whitacre’s perpetual gallop “Equus” and Joseph Turrin’s anthem, “Invocation.” The animated rescue adventure short film “Splash!” features the premiere of the soundtrack’s concert band version by faculty artist Trinity Velez. The trombone section of the North Carolina Symphony, including faculty artist John Ilika, is featured in a furious triple concerto with the Wind Ensemble in “Concerto for Three Trombones and Wind Band” by Derek Bourgeois. The program concludes with Grammy-award winning composer Michael Daugherty’s tribute to famed conductor Leopold Stokowski, and his famous transcriptions for orchestra of J.S. Bach’s organ works.
