La Cage aux Folles the musical comes to the Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance this month.

La Cage aux Folles, the hilarious and touching show focuses on a gay couple: Saint-Tropez drag club manager Georges and his romantic partner and star attraction Albin who will be played by Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance actor Gray Smith. When George's son, Jean-Michel brings home his fiancée—whose parents are ultra-conservative French political fixtures—all heck breaks loose as they struggle to put on appearances for the prospective in laws.

La Cage, based on the 1973 French play by Jean Poiret, has been revived twice on Broadway. There have been three La Cage aux Folles movies made, and the musical. But while the prospect of seeing men in drag fills theatres, it's the story of two men and the hysterical lengths to which they go for each other that win the hearts of audiences everywhere. The show is coming to the Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance September 12-28 with evening performances at 8:00 PM and Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM. On Wednesday, September 24, WSTA is offering a ticket, free of charge, to anyone under the age of 18 accompanied by a parent or guardian who purchases a ticket  to that evening's  performance. The show is rated PG-13 for mild language and innuendos.

WSTA actor Chuck King who plays George and Ken Ashford who plays Deputy Dindon  recently spoke about the musical with David Ford.
