Friday is the deadline for voting registration for the 2014 Primary Elections.

The 2014 Primary is May 6. In order to vote, individuals must submit or post mark their registration form to the board of election in their county by Friday, April 11.  Charlie Collicut is the director of the Guilford County Board of Elections. He says those who do not register by this Friday will not be able to vote in next  month's primary. He also says there are some changes that will affect voters this years. “There's a shorter early voting period. "Now it will start April 24 and run until May 3. Also there is no same day registration. So if you are not registered to vote by this Friday you cannot register on the same day as you have been able to over the last seven or so years," explains Collicut. Regarding photo identification, "When voters go into the polls, they will not be required to present photo ID. They will be asked if they have that kind of ID. If they do not, we will give them a form explaining what constitutes acceptable forms of identification and how they can obtain free voter ID so by 2016 they will have what they need.” Photo ID's will be required when people go to the polls in 2016.

To register, a prospective voter must be a U.S. citizen, 18-years old or older by the next general election and have lived for at least 30 days in the county where they are registering. This Friday is also the deadline if someone wants to change their party affiliation.
