U.S. 220 to Begin Conversion to I-73 Monday
The North Carolina leg of a long awaited highway project linking South Carolina's beaches to Michigan is nearing completion.
Weather permitting, work will begin Monday to install signs for the conversion of a 70-mile stretch of U.S. 220 between Greensboro and Ellerbe into I-73. A North Carolina DOT statement says Traffic Control Safety Services of Winston-Salem was awarded the contract to install more than 1,350 signs, including 126 mile-marker signs, 70 large overhead signs and 273 large ground-mounted signs.
The project will mean some lane closures during the weekday, and motorists are encouraged to stay alert for construction zones. The project is expected to be completed by mid-October.
