Today it's a Triad Arts Weekend poetry and spoken word slam like you've never heard before. Featuring Ed Wilson, Kwame Dawes, Rhett Iseman Trull, Joe Mills, Josephus III, Fred Chapell, Kianga Ford, A.C. Hardy, Helen Losse and Terri Kirby Erickson. To top it off, Peter Kairoff will help us understand the beauty of Brahms.
Ed Wilson:
When Wake Forest University Provost Emeritus Ed Wilson reads from his favorite poets literally hundreds of people clamor to hear him speak. He's lived and breathed poetry practically his entire life, and his enthusiasm is infectious.
Kwame Dawes:
Kwame Dawes is the author of thirteen books of poetry and many books of fiction, non-fiction and drama. His multi-media production "Hope: Living and Loving with HIV AIDS in Jamaica" thrilled Triad audiences at the National Black Theatre Festival in 2009. Kwame Dawes is now a professor of English at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He recently received a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship. He spoke with David Ford by phone from his then home in South Carolina.
Rhett Iseman Trull:
Poet and Cave Wall Press editor Rhett Iseman Trull's poetry is pure power and grace. She spoke with David shortly after the release of her book The Real Warnings which won the 2008 Anhinga Prize for Poetry, selected by Sheryl St. Germain.
Joe Mills:
Joe Mills' most recent book of poetry is Sending Christmas Cards to Huck and Hamlet. Pulitzer Prize nominated author Anthony Abbott, calls it “…one of the most original collections of poetry I have ever encountered.” Joe spoke with David about poetry, and the allure of libraries.
Josephus III:
Josephus III says that for him, poetry is life. He uses his gifts to motivate and inspire others through his many Free Creative Writing and Spoken Word Poetry workshops for Teens, and his own rhythmic poetry.
Kairoff at the Keyboard:

Fred Chapell:
Fred Chapell is a former North Carolina Poet Laureate who has also received our state's highest honor in the Humanities: The John Tyler Caldwell Award presented by the North Carolina Humanities Council. Fred spoke with David and graced us with a poetry reading.
Kianga Ford:
Kianga is an assistant professor of fine arts at Parsons New School for Design in New York. A few years back she rocked the South Eastern Center for Contemporary Art with her heady multi-media installation “About This Place”. She spoke with David alongside then SECCA curator of contemporary art Steven Matisjio.
A.C. Hardy:
A.C. Hardy is a pharmacist with a passion for poetry. He's a member of the Writers' Group of the Triad where his work appears in a poetry anthology titled Fire and Chocolate.
Helen Losse:
Helen Losse's new book of poetry is Mansion of Memory out on Rank Stranger Press.
Terri Kirby Erickson:
Press 53 author and poet Terri Kirby Erickson spent a good part of 2012 picking up awards. Her book of poetry In the Palms of Angels won the 2012 Nautilus Silver Award for poetry, and it won the 2012 Next Generation Indie Book Gold Medal.
