During the past ten years, North Carolina has experienced a tremendous influx of immigrants, bringing new ethnic, cultural and religious diversity with them.  FaithAction International House is working to make Greensboro a model multicultural, interfaith and immigrant-friendly city, and to share our experiences here in the Triad with other communities across the country and around the world.
One great way to do just that is through the arts, at A Place for Us, FaithAction's second annual fundraiser. The hour-long musical revue about unity and the immigrant experience is Thursday night, September 26th in the Greensboro Historical Museum.  A Place for Us features professional actors, singers, dancers and songs from classic musicals like West Side Story, and Man of La Mancha. There will be Mexican folklore dancers, photography by Todd Drake, and monologues from FaithAction's upcoming theatre show: Out of the Shadows: Stories of Hope and Courage from our Newest Immigrant Neighbors. Other stories of the immigrant experience in North Carolina will be shared through beautiful song and spoken word by singer/songwriter Fredd Reyes. All monies raised support the service, education and bridge-building work of FaithAction. There'll be a catered reception at 6:30pm with curtains opening at 7:30pm. Fredd Reyes and his family are immigrants—Fredd spent time in a detention center and used his music to survive inside. Today his soothing voice, and well-crafted acoustic guitar work to unite people across lines of nationality and culture.
All monies raised support the service, education and bridge-building work of FaithAction. The catered reception starts at 6:30pm and A Place for Us begins at 7:30pm
