Paperhand Puppet Intervention has been inspiring people of all ages through puppetry arts, building creative community, and making the world a better place. They're creations range from tiny, delicate song birds cut from paper to mammoth, 18 foot tall paper mache and cloth mural puppets. Paperhand Co-founder Donovan Zimmerman recalls a recent production about memory that was inspired by family stories from Paperhand's cast and crew, and the grand people in their lives. Their stories were told with dozens of century old faces depicted in beautiful, wrinkly skinned masks, with whisps of white hair and narration. Colorfully painted flats represented the ancient's dreams and thoughts. As they passed away the characters would remove their masks and place them on the ground.

Paperhand creates multi-scaled multi-discipline puppet spectacles for all ages with masks, giant puppets, painted flats and rod and shadow puppets all set to live music. Their 15th annual Giant Puppet Pageant is The Painted Bird every weekend August 8th through September 7th at The Forest Theatre in Chapel Hill. It'll run September 11-14th at the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh. Tickets are 12 bucks (8 dollar suggested donation for kids) and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
