Old, Old Bricks for Sale

If you want to hold on to a piece of Salisbury’s past, then you might want to plan a trip to the city’s historic foundation.

The Historic Salisbury Foundation is selling pallets of bricks from the old Grimes Mill, according to the Salisbury Post.  The Mill, built in 1896, was destroyed by fire last month.  It operated until 1982, at which time it was acquired by the Historic Foundation.  The Foundation is charging a hundred dollars for a pallet of bricks.  The wire-cut bricks are solid clay, and come in a variety of colors.  Foundation director Brian Davis says the five-story mill contained about 100-thousand bricks.  Proceeds from the sale, along with the sale of recyclable metal from the mill will help offset the cost of cleaning up the site.  The bricks aren’t suitable for construction, but can be used for walkways, patios, landscaping borders and other decorative projects.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
