The State is weighing in on a local disagreement over the choice of an early voting site in Forsyth County.  The county's election board wants to use the city-owned South Fork Recreation Center but that conflicts with a popular annual craft fair.

The local Board of Elections did not budge on its early voting plan despite concerns from the city and residents.  Now, State Board Director Kim Strach is asking the local Board Chairman Ken Raymond to provide assurance that the county has complied with the state statute on conflict resolution.  According to the Winston-Salem Journal, the statute explains that if there is no solution in 45 days, the state will step in.

Strach also noted in her letter that the new Forsyth County Elections Director Steve Hines will work to improve communications between the board and the city.

The voting schedule disrupts the popular Holly Jolly Craft Show.  The city wants the Board to use an already approved alternate site, the Brown and Douglas Recreation Center.
