North Carolina's NAACP leader says they are not cowed by the conservative electoral victories in November. The Reverend William Barber announced that his group plans a number of events that will promote the NAACP's major points.
Barber, the president of the state NAACP chapter, says reversing restrictive policies on voting rights, expanding Medicaid and raising minimum wage remain among the groups' key issues.
The groups are planning a gathering at the General Assembly on Jan. 21. On Feb. 14, the group will hold a march known as the "Historic Thousands on Jones Street," which began in 2007.
Barber delivered a keynote address Sunday at Duke's annual commemoration for Martin Luther King Jr. He says the demonstrations are based on issues, not political parties.
