Aisha Saeed is a Pakistani American writer, teacher, and attorney. Her newest novel, Written in the Stars, is the young adult tale of Naila, a 17-year-old Pakistani American who is about to enter college.

Naila's conservative parents have allowed her to choose her path in many ways but have made it absolutely clear that they will choose Naila's husband. When her parents discover Naila has a boyfriend, she is forced into an unwanted marriage. Saeed's story is one of love, responsibility, and hope.

Saeed will be participating in this week's Bookmark's Festival of Books and Authors. She will be on the Celebrating Diversity in Books Panel on Saturday at 3:15pm. Aisha is also the Vice President of Strategy for the We Need Diverse Books Campaign. The grassroots organization works toward changes in the publishing industry to produce and promote literature that reflects the lives of all young people. Aisha spoke with Bethany from her home in Atlanta and Bethany began by asking her how she came up with the concept for her book.
